Come up Higher…
The door is open.
“By his divine revelation he broke open the hidden fountains of the deep, bringing secret springs to the surface as the mist of the night dripped down from heaven.”
— Proverbs 3:20
There are days when I realise how easily I live from what I can see.
What is happening around me.
What someone said.
What hasn’t changed.
What I am still waiting for.
What makes sense to my natural mind.
And yet, God continually invites us into something higher.
Come up higher.
Not because our circumstances aren’t real, but because they are not the whole reality.
There is another perspective available to us — the perspective of heaven.
In Revelation 4:1, John sees a door standing open in heaven, and hears the invitation: “Come up here.”
I love that the door was already open.
John didn’t have to force his way into God’s presence. He was invited.
And perhaps that is the invitation for us too.
The Door is already Open
Through Jesus, we have access to the Father.
We are invited beyond the noise of our emotions, beyond what our physical eyes can see, beyond our own reasoning and into deeper communion with the Spirit of God.
Not into fantasy.
Into His reality.
Because there are things we cannot understand from ground level.
There are circumstances that look one way when viewed through disappointment, fear or impatience — and entirely different when seen from the presence of God.
Coming up higher means asking:
Lord, what do You see here?
What are You doing that I cannot yet see?
What are You saying that I have been too distracted to hear?
What are You asking me to pray?
What are You asking me to release?
What are You asking me to believe?
Above the Noise
The invitation to come higher is also an invitation to become quieter.
Because we cannot hear heaven clearly when every other voice has our attention.
The world tells us to analyse harder.
Fix it.
Control it.
Work it out.
But the Spirit whispers:
Come closer.
There is a place in God’s presence where our circumstances no longer occupy the throne.
God does.
And from there, everything begins to find its proper perspective.
The problem may still exist.
The prayer may still be unanswered.
The person may not have changed.
The door we are waiting for may still appear closed.
But we have changed position.
We are no longer looking only at the circumstance.
We are learning to look at it with Him.
And perhaps this changes the way we pray too.
Prayer becomes more than bringing God a list of everything we need Him to fix.
It becomes partnership.
Lord, what is on Your heart?
How do You want me to pray?
Where are You moving?
What are You saying over my family?
What are You saying over my calling?
What are You saying over my community, my country, Your Church?
Teach me to pray from Your promises rather than my fear.
Because when we come higher, we begin to realise that prayer is not about convincing God to enter our circumstances.
He is inviting us to enter His perspective.
LORD, TAKE ME HIGHER
Father, thank You that the door is open.
Thank You that through Jesus I have access to Your presence.
Today I choose to come higher.
Higher than my circumstances.
Higher than my emotions.
Higher than my disappointment.
Higher than what my natural eyes can see.
Holy Spirit, quiet every voice competing for my attention.
Speak, Lord. I am listening.
Show me what You see.
Show me what You are doing beneath the surface.
Teach me to recognise Your authority, Your power and Your purposes even when I cannot yet see the outcome.
Let prayer become partnership with You.
Teach me to pray Your heart over my family, over the people You place in my path, over my community and over the world around me.
I give You my time.
I give You my attention.
I give You my plans.
I give You my life.
Use me as Your willing vessel.
And when I am tempted to live from what I can see, remind me again:
The door is open.
There is another perspective.
There is a higher place.
And You are still saying,
Come up here.
Amen.
