Rest Is a Weapon
There is a stillness God has been inviting me into.
Not the stillness of having nothing to carry. I still carry my children. I still carry decisions, seasons, unanswered things. But underneath the carrying, He has been asking me to lay down the striving. To stop working so hard to hold what was never mine to hold in the first place.
He has my circumstances. He has my children. He has my life.
And today, He reminded me — I can rest in that. Not as a nice idea. As a fact I need to feel in every cell of my body.
Rest is not passive. Rest is warfare.
I used to think rest was what happened after the battle. Now I know — rest is the battle. It’s the ground the enemy fights hardest to take from us, because he knows what happens when a woman stops striving and starts trusting. Anxiety loses its grip. Fear loses its voice. And Heaven’s authority starts moving through a life that has finally gone quiet on the inside.
Trust and rest are two sides of the same coin
I’ve lived long enough now to know this isn’t a metaphor — it’s how surrender actually works.
When I trust Him, something in me settles. I rest on the inside.
And when I choose rest — when I refuse to strive, refuse to grip, refuse to manage what only He can carry — something else happens. My sensitivity to Him sharpens. I hear Him more clearly. I trust Him more deeply.
Trust leads to rest. Rest leads to deeper trust. Round and round, He is teaching me to live from a place I didn’t always know how to reach — not gritting my teeth through faith, but resting my way into it.
I know what it costs to learn this the hard way. I’ve walked through the kind of loss that strips you down to what’s actually true about God, because everything you thought was secure gets shaken. I’ve surrendered my future, my finances, my motherhood, my very identity — not once, gracefully, but again and again, some days barely holding on. And what I’ve learned in the rebuilding is this: striving never once brought me the peace I was looking for. Rest did. Surrender did. Letting the Holy Spirit hold what I could not.
This is what shalom actually is
Not the absence of a storm. The authentic reality of Heaven’s peace, available to me inside the storm.
When I am living in rest instead of striving, quiet on the inside instead of anxious, I’m not just protecting my own peace — I’m releasing something. Shalom becomes a realm I carry, and what I carry, I release into the atmosphere around me. My home. My children. The women I sit across from. Rest becomes a gateway between Heaven and Earth, and I get to be the one standing in the doorway.
That’s not passive. That’s authority.
The invitation from Ephesians
Paul prayed something over the believers that I now pray over myself, and over you:
“I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the mighty power that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm!” — Ephesians 1:19-20 (TPT)
Read that again slowly.
The same power that raised Christ from the dead is the power available to you, right now, in whatever you are carrying today. Not power to strive harder. Power to rest deeper, and let Him move.
Sit with this today
Is there an area Jesus is inviting you to entrust to Him — fully — so you can stay surrendered in rest, confident that His power is already at work?
What would it look like for you to continually experience the immeasurable greatness of His power, instead of the exhausting weight of managing everything yourself?
What would actually be different in your life if you remained at rest — trusting that His faithfulness is already working within you, even in what you cannot see yet?
This is not a technique. This is your new nature. This is your true reality.
Meditate on it. Let it settle into your bones.
He has you. He has your children. He has your life.
You can rest.
Walk Held, Beloved.
