Worship Is the Way She Walks

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24

When Jesus spoke about worship in spirit and truth, He wasn’t describing a moment in a church service.

He was describing a way of living with God.

As His daughters, worship is so much more than the songs we sing. It is the posture of a heart that continually turns towards Him. A life that says, You are worthy. You are welcome here. I want Your Presence more than I want my own way.

David understood something about this.

When the Ark of the Covenant—the place that represented the Presence of God—was brought into Jerusalem, David laid aside his royal garments and worshipped before the Lord with complete abandon.

“David danced before the Lord with all his might.” — 2 Samuel 6:14

For a moment, being king didn’t matter.

His image didn’t matter.

What anyone thought of him didn’t matter.

God mattered.

There is something beautiful here for us as daughters of God.

We carry so many roles. Woman. Wife. Mother. Friend. Leader. Professional. Caregiver. The one who gets things done. The one others depend on.

But before every role, I am His daughter.

And worship brings me back to that place.

In spirit

To worship in spirit is to worship Him from the deepest, most honest place within me.

Not performance.
Not religious obligation.
Not trying to say the right things.

It is my spirit responding to His Spirit.

Sometimes that looks like singing loudly. Sometimes it is sitting silently in His Presence. Sometimes it is tears. Sometimes gratitude. Sometimes it is simply whispering “Jesus” in the middle of an ordinary day.

Worship doesn’t have to be impressive to be intimate.

In truth

David had sincerity, but sincerity alone wasn’t enough. He also had to learn God’s way of carrying His Presence.

And perhaps there is something important in that for us.

Worship isn’t only bringing God my feelings. It is allowing His truth to shape my response.

When my feelings tell me God has forgotten me, I worship in truth: You will never leave me nor forsake me.

When fear says I need to control everything, I worship in truth: You are my Shepherd.

When shame whispers that I am not enough, I worship in truth: I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

When circumstances feel uncertain, I worship in truth: You are faithful.

Truth becomes worship when I choose to agree with who God says He is above what my circumstances are telling me.

And this becomes very practical.

Worship happens when I surrender my plans before beginning my day.

When I thank Him while driving to work.

When I choose forgiveness instead of holding onto offence.

When I obey the quiet prompting of the Holy Spirit.

When I stop in the middle of my rushing and become aware of Him again.

When I choose gratitude instead of complaint.

When I say, “Father, what are You doing here?” before deciding how I will respond.

This is how worship moves beyond Sunday and becomes the way she walks.

A woman of worship becomes increasingly aware of His Presence in ordinary places.

In her kitchen.
In meetings.
In conversations.
In disappointment.
In celebration.
In waiting.
In the quiet.

And perhaps this is the invitation:

Lay down the royal garments.

The titles.
The image.
The performance.
The need to have everything together.

Come before Him simply as His daughter.

Because worship in spirit and truth isn’t about getting the atmosphere right.

It is about giving Him all of me.

And when His Presence becomes the treasure of my life, worship is no longer something I occasionally do.

It becomes the way I walk.

A simple prayer

Father, teach me to worship You in spirit and in truth.

Strip away anything in me that is performance, fear of people, or empty routine. I want my worship to be real.

Teach me to recognise Your Presence in the ordinary moments of my day. Let Your truth become louder than my feelings, fears and circumstances.

Before every title I carry, remind me that I am first Your daughter.

May my thoughts, my choices, my obedience, my gratitude and my surrender become worship before You.

More than anything, I want to be a woman who treasures Your Presence.

Jesus, be welcome in the way I walk today.

Amen.
