His Love Leads Me Into A Broad Place
Learning to live in the freedom of being deeply loved.
“His love broke open the way, and he brought me into a beautiful, broad place. He rescued me—because his delight is in me!”
— Psalm 18:19 (TPT)
I’ve been sitting with this Scripture, particularly those words:
A beautiful, broad place.
And I’ve been wondering what that might look like in our everyday lives.
Because I think it’s possible to love God, walk with Him for many years, and still live in some very narrow places within ourselves.
Places shaped by fear.
By disappointment.
By the need to control outcomes.
By the constant feeling that we should be doing more, becoming more, achieving more.
We know that God loves us.
But do we actually live as women who believe it?
THE NARROW PLACES WE LIVE IN
David wrote Psalm 18 as a song of thanksgiving for God’s deliverance.
He knew what it meant to live under pressure, surrounded by danger and uncertainty.
And then God brought him into a spacious place.
A place of safety and freedom.
But what strikes me most is not simply where God brought David.
It’s why.
Because He delighted in him.
David recognised that God’s rescue flowed from His goodness and gracious delight.
And I wonder whether some of us are still living in narrow places because we haven’t fully grasped the Father’s heart towards us.
We still feel the need to prove ourselves.
We measure our worth by what we accomplish.
We carry responsibilities we were never meant to carry alone.
And somewhere along the way, we’ve confused being faithful with having to hold everything together.
HIS LOVE HAS MADE A WAY
There is something beautiful about the opening words of this translation.
His love broke open the way.
Through Jesus, the way into the Father’s presence has been opened.
Hebrews 10:19–22 reminds us that we can approach God with confidence because of what Christ has done.
We don’t have to earn our way into His presence.
We have been welcomed.
Not because we’ve prayed enough.
Or served enough.
Or finally become the women we think we should be.
But because of Jesus.
The broad place is not a reward for getting everything right.
It is a beautiful picture of the freedom we are invited to experience through Him.
LEARNING TO LIVE LOVED
I’ve been thinking about the difference between knowing that God loves me and actually living as someone who believes it.
Because those two things aren’t always the same.
When I live from the security of His love, I don’t have to measure my worth by my productivity.
I can acknowledge my weaknesses without allowing them to define me.
I can trust Him with outcomes I cannot control.
And I can stop striving for acceptance and begin living from acceptance.
Ephesians 3:17–19 speaks about being rooted and grounded in love.
Not simply knowing about His love.
But becoming established in it.
And perhaps that’s where true rest begins.
When we stop trying to convince God that we are worthy of His love and begin believing that, through Christ, we are already welcomed into it.
WHAT IF NOTHING AROUND ME CHANGES?
Here’s something important.
Living in the freedom of God’s love doesn’t mean that everything in our lives suddenly becomes easy.
There may still be prayers we’re waiting to see answered.
Relationships we’re trusting Him to restore.
Circumstances we don’t understand.
And disappointments we’re still working through.
But even while we wait, we can learn to live differently.
We can trust His heart when we cannot see His hand.
We can rest without knowing the outcome.
And we can rejoice in His presence because His love is not dependent on our circumstances.
Philippians 4:4 reminds us:
“Rejoice in the Lord always.”
Not only when things work out.
But because of who He is.
AN INVITATION INTO THE BROAD PLACE
Perhaps the broad place God is inviting you into today is not a different set of circumstances.
Perhaps it begins with a different understanding of His love.
A place where you no longer have to prove yourself.
Where you can surrender what you cannot control.
Where your identity is no longer determined by your achievements or disappointments.
Where you can simply enjoy being His daughter.
And perhaps, for some of us, that is the greatest freedom of all.
To finally believe that we are deeply loved.
Not because of what we do.
But because we belong to Him.
His love doesn’t just rescue me from something. It welcomes me into something.
Into His presence.
Into intimacy.
Into freedom.
Into the beautiful, spacious life of knowing that I am His.
And I don’t have to earn my place there.
A QUESTION FOR YOUR HEART
Where am I still living in a narrow place when God has invited me into the spaciousness of His love?

THIS WEEK’S TRUTH
The broad place is not necessarily where everything around me changes. It is where His love begins to change the way I live within it.
