Lord, make me hungry again!
“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13
Lord, what does it actually mean to search for You with all of my heart?
I’ve been sitting with that question.
Because if I’m truthful, I wonder sometimes whether I have become too comfortable in my faith.
I love You.
I pray.
I read Your Word.
I worship.
I believe You.
But is there a difference between loving You and hungering for You?
Have I perhaps become satisfied with knowing about You when You are inviting me to know You more deeply?
Have I become comfortable with yesterday’s encounters?
Am I expecting too little?
There is something stirring in me in this new season that says:
Lord, I want more.
Not more blessings.
Not more answers.
Not more opportunities.
More of You.
I want to encounter You in ways that change me.
I want to open my Bible with expectation again — not simply because reading Scripture is something a Christian “should” do, but because I genuinely believe that somewhere between those pages, the living God wants to speak to me.
I want to linger.
I want to listen.
I want to search.
I want to become hungry again.
When faith becomes familiar
There is a danger in walking with God for many years.
We can become familiar with holy things.
We know the Scriptures.
We know the worship songs.
We know the language.
We know what we believe.
And slowly, without necessarily realising it, wonder can become routine.
Yet God says:
“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” — Deuteronomy 4:29
I love those words: with all your heart.
Not casually.
Not conveniently.
Not when there is nothing else demanding my attention.
Wholeheartedly.
And perhaps that is the invitation I am sensing in this season.
Not to try harder at being a good Christian.
But to want Him more.
Lord, disturb my comfort
This is becoming my prayer:
Lord, wherever I have become spiritually comfortable, disturb me.
Where I have become lazy, wake me up.
Where disappointment has quietly turned into cynicism, soften my heart again.
Where I have stopped asking because I have stopped expecting, teach me to ask again.
Where I read Your Word without expectation, give me fresh revelation.
Where I rush through time with You, teach me to linger.
Where other things have captured my attention, turn my eyes back to You.
Because I don’t want a faith that simply fits neatly around my life.
I want a life that revolves around You.
David wrote:
“With my whole heart I seek You; let me not wander from Your commandments!” — Psalm 119:10
There is something almost desperate about that prayer.
With my whole heart.
Not half.
Not distracted.
Not divided between God and a hundred other things clamouring for my attention.
And perhaps wholehearted seeking begins with simply recognising how easily my heart wanders.
Maybe hunger is something we ask for!
Sometimes I think we wait to feel spiritually hungry before we pursue God.
But what if hunger itself can become our prayer?
Lord, make me hungry for You.
Give me an appetite for Your Word.
Make me curious about You again.
Let Scripture come alive.
Teach me things I have never seen before.
Show me parts of Your character I have not yet understood.
Take me deeper than borrowed revelation and second-hand encounters.
I don’t only want to hear what someone else discovered about You.
I want to search for You myself.
Jesus said:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7
There is movement in those words.
Ask.
Seek.
Knock.
Faith was never meant to be passive.
There is an invitation to pursue.
Let yesterday’s encounter not be enough!
This is perhaps the deepest part of my prayer.
Lord, don’t let me live on what I experienced with You five years ago.
Or last year.
Or even yesterday.
Thank You for every place You have met me.
Thank You for every prayer You have answered.
Thank You for every wilderness You have carried me through.
Thank You for every revelation that has shaped my life.
But You are still infinite.
There is still more of You to know.
Paul had walked with God, suffered for Christ, encountered Jesus and experienced extraordinary revelation — and yet his heart still cried:
“I want to know Christ.” — Philippians 3:10
That challenges me.
Because perhaps spiritual maturity isn’t reaching a place where we finally feel we know enough about God.
Perhaps maturity makes us increasingly aware of how much more of Him there is to discover.
And that awakens hunger.
So Lord, please shake me awake!
In this new season, this is my prayer:
Lord, awaken something fresh in me.
Give me a holy hunger for Your presence.
Teach me to search for You with my whole heart.
Let me devour Your Word instead of merely reading it.
Let me recognise Your voice more clearly.
Strip away cynicism.
Break through familiarity.
Interrupt my routines.
Challenge my assumptions.
Stretch my expectation.
And wherever I have unconsciously decided,
“This is probably as deep as it gets…”
show me how wrong I am.
I don’t want to stand at the edge of everything You are and convince myself I’ve seen the ocean.
Take me deeper.
I want to know You.
Not merely Your promises.
Not merely Your provision.
Not merely Your answers.
You.
And perhaps that is what searching for God with all our hearts really is.
It is waking up every morning with the quiet conviction:
There is still more of Him to discover.
And deciding that He is worth the search.
This week’s invitation
Before opening your phone in the morning, open His Word.
Not to tick a box.
Not to finish a chapter.
Simply pray:
“Lord, show me something about You I haven’t seen before.”
Then read slowly.
Stay curious.
Ask questions.
Linger.
Because He has already given us this beautiful promise:
“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13
Lord, make us women who are never satisfied with simply knowing about You.
Make us women who hunger to know You.
